Local news says 4 American swimmers went to a party downtown on Saturday and left at about 6AM.
Midway to the Olympics complex, they asked the taxi driver to make a pit stop in a gas station to pee.
Apparently they trashed the men’s room door and when trying to leave, the security guard of the gas station stopped them and said he was calling the police.
They then started discussing with the security guard when he pulled a gun telling them to stay quiet until the police arrives.
However, after a few hours, no police came and Mr Lothe offered US$100 to cover for the damages, and the manager on duty accepted it and the guys resume their way to the Olympics complex.
All of this were captured by the gas station security camera.
When arriving quite joyful at the Olympics complex at about 7AM they were filmed by the security cameras with all their belongings including watches, wallets and everything else.
However, next day Mr. Lothe told a reporter they were robbed at gun point at about 4AM when in their way from the party before arriving in the Olympics complex. He said they took everything from them, US$400 and wallet and watches.
The news impact was huge and the police was called immediately to catch the thieves. But upon hearing what they said and what the security cameras were saying, the judge concluded a foul play was in action and ordered them to appear at the next day in court to explain.
The American Olympic committee said they didn’t know anything about it nor the whereabouts of the swimmers.
Mr Lothe left the country on Monday and yesterday 2 swimmers were asked to leave the American Airlines flight where they just boarded and their passports were confiscated.
It seems unless they confess what really happen and there were no robbery, they will be held in custody.
Mr Lothe who fled the country is going to be contacted by the FBI as requested by the Brazilian Federal Police to explain what happened.
Stay tuned for more.
