Indian Cricket is all set to reach yet another landmark in the history of the game. The first test of India-New Zealand bi-lateral series at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur will be the country’s 500th Test match in its 84-year of history.Both BCCI and Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) are making special plans for this match.
BCCI and UPCA are inviting all the former test captains of India for this match and going to felicitate them. A felicitation ceremony to honor India’s former Test captains will be held just before the toss followed by a special dinner with the BCCI officials..BCCI official and UPCA chairman Rajiv Shukla said that a special silver coin with ‘500th Test Match’ minted on it will be used for the toss.
Former captains like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and few others are expected to attend the event. But former BCCI President Shashank Manohar, will not be invited to the occasionAfter Shashank Manohar stepped down as the President of the BCCI to become the first independent chairman of the International Cricket Council(ICC), both the bodies are at loggerheads over many issues.
The BCCI along with UPCA will also be hosting a dinner for the Indian captains, where both India and New Zealand teams will be present,” Shukla said.
The BCCI and the UPCA are also preparing T-shirts with ‘500th Test’ written on it for the under-privileged children, who will be present in the stadium on all Test match days.
“Every day, there will be 2000 under-privileged school children, who would be watching their favourite stars in action. We have also made arrangements for physically challenged persons and kids from the orphanage, who would be attending the Test match,” said Shukla.
